Freud Museum London

The Freud Museum at 20 Maresfield Gardens in Hampstead is Sigmund Freud's last home. After the 1938 Anschluss the Jewish family fled Vienna for London; Freud lived here just over a year and died in September 1939. His daughter Anna Freud, founder of child psychoanalysis, kept the house until 1982. Its heart is Freud's study: he had his entire Vienna interior shipped across – the famous couch covered with a Persian rug, the antiquities crowded on his desk, the books in their original order. Since the museum opened in 1986 this room has been left untouched. Rotating exhibitions explore links between psychoanalysis, art and cultural history.
