Friedhofskapelle Maria Schnee

The Friedhofskapelle Maria Schnee is a small funerary chapel on Eichstätt's eastern cemetery, built in 1535 during the Reformation era — a period when Eichstätt, as an episcopal seat, remained firmly Catholic. Its dedication to Maria Schnee (Our Lady of the Snow) reflects a Marian patronage widespread in late medieval and early modern southern Germany. Listed as a protected monument in Bavaria, the chapel is a modest but characteristic example of 16th-century sacred cemetery architecture in the region. The interior is plain and the site is not wheelchair-accessible; its quiet presence is best appreciated as part of the historic cemetery grounds surrounding it.
