Galgenberg

The Galgenberg outside Hardegsen is a wooded hill on the edge of this small town in southern Lower Saxony. Like many hills sharing the name — 'Galgen' means gallows — it served as a medieval execution site, deliberately elevated so that public hangings would be visible across the surrounding countryside as a deterrent. Today the hill is a quiet local recreation area with forest paths and open views over the Solling foothills.
