Burg Erfenstein

Burg Erfenstein is a heavily deteriorated ruin of a medieval rock castle deep in the Pfälzerwald, located near the small settlement of Erfenstein in the Landkreis Bad Dürkheim, Rhineland-Palatinate. The structure perches on a prominent sandstone outcrop surrounded by dense forest and is protected as a listed cultural monument. It is best known locally through the legend of the Lederne Brücke — the 'Leather Bridge' — a folk tale linking it to the nearby Burg Spangenberg and involving a wager between rival noble families. Today the ruin is reached via marked hiking trails through the Pfälzerwald nature park, and the rocky summit offers views across the forested hills of the region.
