Saint Stephen of the Ethiopians
Vatican City
Also known as: Torre San Giovanni, Torrione San Giovanni
The Torre San Giovanni is a circular 13th-century watchtower on the Vatican Hill, set within the gardens of Vatican City. Pope John XXIII converted it into a guesthouse in the 1960s, and Pius XII used it as a retreat. Later it housed high-ranking visitors and participants of conclaves. The tower is visible only from the guided Vatican Gardens tour and cannot be entered.
