Church of the Teutonic Order

The Teutonic Order church in Vienna sits on Singerstrasse in the very centre of the old city, a few steps behind St Stephen's Cathedral. Consecrated in 1375, it is one of Vienna's oldest monastic and order churches and was reshaped in Baroque taste in the seventeenth century without losing its narrow Gothic plan. For centuries the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order resided in the adjoining house; in the eighteenth century both Mozart and Brahms briefly lodged here. The Treasury in the same complex displays insignia, decorations and liturgical objects. A quiet pause off the tourist flow around Stephansplatz.
