Also known as: Chapel of Silence
The Kamppi Chapel stands on Narinkka Square in Helsinki's Kamppi district and opened in 2012 as a Chapel of Silence. The 11.5-metre-high oval wooden building by K2S Architects is clad outside in oiled spruce planks and lined inside with warm alder and ash that absorbs all city traffic noise. The project was part of the Helsinki World Design Capital programme and is jointly run by the Helsinki Lutheran parish and the city social services. Visitors walk in without appointment to find a few minutes of quiet in the plain wooden shell amid the shopping district.
