Saint Pancras Cathedral

San Pancrazio Cathedral in Albano Laziale, just over 30 kilometres southeast of Rome in the Alban Hills, is the cathedral of the suburbicarian diocese of Albano, one of the seven suburbicarian sees of the Pope. It goes back to a 5th-century predecessor traditionally attributed to Emperor Constantine; the present baroque building dates from 1722. Its patron is the young martyr Pancras, said to have been beheaded in Rome around 304 under Diocletian. The church carries the title of basilica minor and is protected as an Italian national monument. Albano lies on the classic Castelli Romani tour of vineyards, volcanic lakes and the papal summer residence Castel Gandolfo, only three kilometres away.
