Kibizuka Tomb
Kibizuka Tomb is a circular burial mound (en-kofun) in Kyōto attributed to Kibi no Makibi (695–775), one of the most prominent scholar-officials of the Nara period. Kibi no Makibi traveled twice to Tang-dynasty China as an imperial envoy and is traditionally credited with contributing to the development of the katakana syllabary. The mound belongs to the kofun tradition of elite tumulus burial that flourished in Japan between the 3rd and 7th centuries CE. Today the site is a quiet, low-key archaeological remnant within the urban landscape, with minimal signage and no visitor facilities — more a footnote in stone than a formal attraction.
