二子塚古墳

Futagozuka Kofun (二子塚古墳) is a keyhole-shaped burial mound of the Kofun period (roughly 3rd–7th century CE), located in the Yamaga neighborhood of Taishi in Osaka's Minamikawachi District. Its distinctive scallop-and-rectangle silhouette — a circular rear mound joined to a trapezoidal front platform — is characteristic of elite and imperial burials from early Japan. Designated a National Historic Site in 1956 and expanded in 2019, it belongs to the Isonagadani Kofun Cluster, thirty tumuli of which five are officially classified as imperial tombs by the Imperial Household Agency. That designation means access is tightly controlled and the interior has never been fully excavated, leaving its burial goods and precise occupant unknown — an unresolved archaeological puzzle sealed beneath centuries of earth and grass.
