Orekhovo-Borisovo Metochion

The Holy Trinity Church at the Borisovo Ponds sits in Moscow's southern Orekhovo-Borisovo district and is one of the largest Russian Orthodox churches built after the end of the Soviet Union. It went up between 2001 and 2004, financed by donations gathered around the 2000-year jubilee of Christianity, and is meant as a visible sign that Orthodox architecture had returned at scale. The white building follows the Vladimir-Suzdal tradition with five gilded onion domes and a free-standing bell tower, while the interior carries some 4,000 square metres of wall painting. Today the church stands off the tourist track between Soviet-era housing blocks and a chain of ponds; expect a quiet visit on weekdays and a full congregation on Sundays.
