Church of the Intercession, Yasenevo

The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God stands in the Yasenevo district of Moscow's Southwestern Administrative Okrug and belongs to the Moscow Eparchy. The Russian Orthodox church was consecrated in 2008 as one of the first major new buildings after the post-Soviet revival, which fundamentally changed the look of the late-Soviet residential estates on the city's edge. Five gilded onion domes rise high above the 1970s prefab apartment blocks and are visible from far away. Inside, the multi-tiered iconostasis glows with contemporary icons painted in traditional style. Commuters arrive at the metro station of the same name; the church is open daily, and on Sunday mornings it fills with parishioners from the surrounding housing estates.
