Moscow's Lenkom Mark Zakharov Theatre sits in a 1907 Art Nouveau building on Malaya Dmitrovka, formerly the clubhouse of the Moscow Merchants' Society. In 1927 the Komsomol Youth Theatre was founded here, giving rise to the short name Lenkom from Leninsky Komsomol. The house received the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1948 and the Order of the October Revolution in 1977. Its golden era came under Mark Zakharov, who ran the theatre from 1973 until his death in 2019 and turned it into a popular magnet with productions such as the rock opera Juno and Avos. Stars like Oleg Yankovsky and Inna Churikova defined a style between Soviet repertory theatre and musically and visually bold staging. Since 2014 the building has been listed as Russian cultural heritage. Tickets are sold online; the auditorium seats around 800.
