Also known as: Mehmet Akif Ersoy Park
Mehmet Akif Ersoy Parkı is a small, well-maintained urban park near the Blue Mosque in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district, dedicated to one of Turkey's most revered poets. Mehmet Akif Ersoy (1873–1936) authored the lyrics of the Turkish national anthem, İstiklal Marşı, and remains a symbol of the Turkish independence movement — a memorial within the park marks his legacy. Fountains and mature shade trees offer a welcome pause from the dense tourist foot traffic of the surrounding historic quarter. The park's position yields a direct sightline to the Blue Mosque's iconic silhouette, making it a quiet vantage point before the crowds arrive.
