Montgomery Covered Bridge

The Montgomery Covered Bridge, also known as the Lower Covered Bridge, is an 1887 wooden covered bridge carrying Montgomery Road across the North Branch of the Lamoille River in Waterville, Vermont. It is one of three covered bridges in the township and part of a striking regional cluster — five such bridges cross the Lamoille River within a five-mile stretch, a concentration that reflects the deep-rooted covered-bridge building tradition of late 19th-century New England. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the bridge has been preserved in its original timber-truss form. Visitors can reach it easily on foot or by bike, and the quiet riverside setting — framed by forest and particularly vivid during fall foliage — makes it a gentle, unhurried stop.
