Church Street Covered Bridge

The Church Street Covered Bridge, also known as the Village Covered Bridge, is a late 19th-century timber structure spanning the North Branch of the Lamoille River in Waterville, Vermont, just off State Route 109. It is one of five covered bridges crossing the same river within roughly five miles — a concentration rare even by New England standards — and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The covered design was purely practical: enclosing the wooden trusses protected them from snow and rain, extending the bridge's lifespan from decades to over a century. Today the bridge sits in a quietly scenic forest setting that rewards a short detour, especially in fall foliage season when the surrounding sugar maples frame the structure in deep reds and oranges.
