Columbia Covered Bridge

The Columbia Covered Bridge carries Columbia Bridge Road across the Connecticut River, linking Columbia, New Hampshire to Lemington, Vermont on a single historic timber span. Built in 1911–12, it is one of only two New Hampshire bridges constructed using the Howe truss system — a design patented in the 1840s that pairs diagonal wooden compression members with vertical iron tension rods. It stands as one of the last covered bridges completed in the historic era of covered bridge construction in either state, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Today it remains open to traffic and sits quietly amid the forested New England landscape, offering unhurried views of the Connecticut River with little competition from crowds.
