National Gallery Singapore

Opened in 2015, the National Gallery Singapore holds the world's largest public collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art, with nearly 8,000 works. It occupies two repurposed colonial landmarks in the Downtown Core: the former Supreme Court (1939) and City Hall (1929), both national monuments. French firm Studio Milou and Singapore's CPG bridged the two buildings with a tree-like gold steel-and-glass canopy that floats above without touching the historic facades. The DBS Singapore Gallery traces Singaporean art from the 19th century to today; the UOB Southeast Asia Gallery presents works from ten ASEAN countries. Highlights include Georgette Chen, Liu Kang and Cheong Soo Pieng. The rooftop offers fine views across Marina Bay, and its restaurant is a popular evening spot.
