Forum Nervae

The Forum of Nerva is one of Rome's four Imperial Fora, squeezed between the Forum of Augustus and the Forum of Peace. It is also known as the Forum Transitorium because the main road called the Argiletum ran lengthwise through it. Construction began under Vespasian or Domitian, but it was Emperor Nerva who dedicated the narrow elongated square in AD 97. Its most famous surviving fragment is the Colonnacce, two freestanding Corinthian columns crowned by a relief of Minerva and a frieze depicting women at work. Today the remains lie below the level of the Via dei Fori Imperiali and can be viewed from a slim walkway, as part of the wider Imperial Forums archaeological zone.
