Paveletsky Rail Terminal

Paveletsky Station is one of Moscow's nine terminal stations, fronting its eponymous square south of the Garden Ring. It opened in 1900 as the head of the new line to Pavelets and the Volga, designed by Yuli Diderichs. The station is famous as the terminus of the funeral train that brought Lenin's body from Gorki to Moscow in 1924 - the locomotive and carriage survive in a dedicated pavilion museum next to the station. Today Paveletsky is best known as the city terminus of the Aeroexpress to Domodedovo airport, but the tsarist-era hall with its high barrel vault still rewards a short stop.
