Biel/Bienne sits at the southern foot of the Jura mountains in the canton of Bern, with a population of around 56,000. It is one of Switzerland's few officially bilingual cities, where German and French share equal standing in everyday life. Positioned at the tip of Lake Biel, it combines an urban character with easy access to the lake and Jura countryside. Points of interest include the historic Burgplatz in the old town, the Stade de la Chaudrette, and the Sportmediathek Magglingen on the nearby Magglingen plateau.
