Sion
Sion is the capital of the canton of Valais in southern central Switzerland, situated in the Rhône Valley at around 500 metres above sea level. With a population of roughly 24,000 it is the canton's largest city. Two prominent rocky hills — Valère and Tourbillon — define its skyline. The area is known for its dry, sunny climate and the wine-growing culture of the Valais. Visitors find a compact city that serves as a base for alpine excursions, including routes toward Wispile, Haut de Cry, and the Chapelle de Vuisse.
