About Hamm

Hamm is an independent city in the eastern Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia, home to around 180,000 people. Situated on the river Lippe, it was shaped for generations by coal mining and heavy industry, a legacy still visible at sites such as Halde Radbod and the Zentralhallen. The Maximilian-Brücke spans the cityscape alongside open spaces like Klenzeplatz, while public sculptures — among them Erna Scholten mit Hund and the Weißrüssel-Nasenbär — add character to everyday streets.
