Ohrid
Ohrid lies in the southwest of North Macedonia on the shores of Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe. With a population of around 39,000, it is widely regarded as the country's cultural and religious heartland, shaped by a long Orthodox Christian heritage. Among its notable sites are the Saint John monastery, the churches of St. Peter and Paul and Sts. Constantine and Helena, the freshwater springs known as Biljana's Springs, and a distinctive old plane tree with a forked trunk.
