Ali Pasha Mosque

The Ali Pasha Mosque is the largest mosque in Ohrid and its muftiate — a prominent remnant of Ottoman rule in a city long nicknamed the 'Jerusalem of the Balkans'. Built in 1573 under Ottoman patronage, the mosque accommodates up to 300 worshippers and its dome and slender minaret remain defining features of the old town skyline. State-protected as a heritage monument, it continues to function as an active place of Sunni Muslim worship. As a well-preserved example of 16th-century Ottoman mosque architecture, it offers visitors a tangible sense of how deeply the Ottoman era shaped the religious and urban fabric of the western Balkans.
