About Van

Van is a large city in eastern Turkey, situated near the shores of Lake Van, a vast saltwater lake, and home to over one million people, making it the dominant urban centre of the region. The city serves as a base for exploring the surrounding highland landscape of eastern Anatolia. Its religious character is reflected in numerous mosques, including the Sadon Mahalle Camii, Akabe Camii, and Horhor Medresesi Camii. Van offers visitors a glimpse into everyday life in one of Turkey's more remote eastern provinces, well away from the country's main tourist routes.
