About Libya

Libya is a large country in North Africa, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and six nations including Egypt, Tunisia, and Sudan. It ranks among Africa's biggest countries by area, yet remains sparsely populated, with most inhabitants concentrated along the coastal strip. The vast interior is dominated by the Sahara desert. Ancient sites such as Leptis Magna and Sabratha are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's government in 2011, the country has been navigating a prolonged period of political instability and transition.
