About Portugal

Portugal occupies the southwestern corner of the Iberian Peninsula, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. The country is home to around 10.3 million people and includes the autonomous island regions of the Azores and Madeira. Lisbon serves as the capital, while Porto is the main urban centre of the north. Portugal's seafaring era in the 15th and 16th centuries shaped much of its cultural and architectural heritage. Varied landscapes, an extensive Atlantic coastline, and a mild climate make it a destination visited throughout the year.
