Tomb of Ziaur Rahman

The mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman stands in Chandrima Udyan park in Dhaka, directly opposite the parliament building Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Zia, the sixth president of Bangladesh and founder of the BNP, was assassinated in Chittagong in 1981 and is buried here in a plain white structure. The tomb is a pilgrimage point for supporters of the nationalist party and a stage for regular ceremonies, particularly on the anniversary of his death on 30 May. Surrounding it are a lake with bridges and shaded paths, used in the evenings by families and young couples.
