Baitul Mukarram National Mosque

Baitul Mukarram is the national mosque of Bangladesh and the country's largest. Completed in 1968, it stands at the centre of the capital Dhaka and accommodates more than 42,000 worshippers. Its name means "the sacred house" — a deliberate echo of the Kaaba in Mecca. The mosque is a centre of religious life and the principal gathering place for the Muslim community of Bangladesh.
