Abrigo de la Quebrada

The Abrigo de la Quebrada is a natural rock shelter in Valencia Province and one of the most significant Neanderthal sites on the Iberian Peninsula. The shelter stretches nearly 38 metres long and up to nine metres deep, its northwest-to-southeast orientation providing natural protection for its prehistoric inhabitants. Archaeological excavations have uncovered stone tools and animal bones indicating repeated Neanderthal occupation over an extended period. The site offers rare inland evidence of Neanderthal subsistence strategies and daily life, complementing better-known coastal Palaeolithic sites in the region.
