Absam

Absam is a small Tyrolean municipality east of Hall in Tirol, best known as a Marian pilgrimage site along the Jakobsweg. Its pilgrimage church traces its origins to 1797, when a image of the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared on a farmhouse windowpane, drawing devotees from across the region. Pope John Paul II visited in 1988, and in 2000 the Vatican elevated the church to a Basilica minor, cementing its status as a significant Catholic pilgrimage destination. The municipal office handles local administration and is open on weekdays during limited hours.
