Aloia Mountain

Monte Aloia rises south of Vigo along the Galician-Portuguese border and forms the core of the Parque Natural Monte Aloia, one of Spain's oldest protected areas, first designated in 1935 and expanded in 1978. The 746-hectare park combines dense mixed forest with prehistoric castro-culture remains and ethnographic traces of this long-standing border region. Granite formations give the mountain its geological character, while the Atlantic flora — oak groves, bracken, and heathland — is distinctly Galician. Hiking trails lead to the summit, where clear days open up views across the Río Miño valley, the Portuguese coastline, and the basin around Vigo.
