Augstberg

Augstberg is the second-highest point in the Trochtelfingen municipal area on the Swabian Alb, rising to 848.1 metres about 1.5 km south of the village of Steinhilben. The forested summit is built from Jurassic reef limestone (Kimmeridgian stage), remnants of a shallow coral reef that existed here roughly 150 million years ago — giving the hill geological significance beyond its modest height. Hikers reach the wooded peak via trails from Trochtelfingen and Steinhilben, with views across the characteristic plateau landscape of the central Alb on clear days. It makes for a quiet half-day outing well off the more crowded Alb tourist routes.
