Munterley

Liked by

The Munterley is a steep, craggy dolomite rock formation rising to 482 metres on the edge of Gerolstein in the Vulkaneifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate. It forms part of the Gerolsteiner Dolomiten, a geologically unusual cluster of Devonian reef limestone outcrops shaped over millions of years by the volcanic activity characteristic of the Eifel. From the summit, walkers are rewarded with open views across Gerolstein's rooftops and the forested Eifel hills beyond. Marked hiking trails lead up from the town center, making it an accessible yet rewarding detour for geology enthusiasts and hikers looking for rugged rock scenery away from busier tourist routes.
