Amastrianum

The Amastrianum was a public square in Byzantine Constantinople that has vanished completely from the modern cityscape. It took its name from the Black Sea city of Amastris, home to many residents of the surrounding neighbourhood. Byzantine chronicles record it as a site for public punishments and executions. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, it disappeared during Ottoman urban development, and its exact location in present-day Istanbul remains uncertain.
