Ameringkogel

The Ameringkogel, at around 1,979 metres, is the highest summit of the Packalpe, the dominant ridge of the Lavanttal Alps east of the Lavant river in the Austrian state of Carinthia. As the area's high point, it commands wide panoramic views across the Styrian and Carinthian mountain landscape on clear days. Several hiking routes climb to the summit from the surrounding valleys, passing through alpine meadows and the upland forests typical of the Packalpe. A summit cross marks the top. The range's relative remoteness keeps the Ameringkogel quiet compared to the heavily visited peaks of the Central Alps.
