Alvier

The Alvier is the 2,343-metre namesake summit of the Alvierkette range in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, situated close to the Liechtenstein border. The mountain is composed largely of limestone, giving its upper flanks a pale, fractured character typical of the Helvetic nappes. Several marked hiking trails ascend from the Rhine Valley towns below, and a ridge traverse continuing to the slightly lower Gauschla peak is a popular alpine day route. The summit offers an expansive panorama taking in the Rhine plain, the principality of Liechtenstein, the Vorarlberg Alps, and on clear days the peaks of central Switzerland.
