Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is the most-visited slot canyon in the United States, carved into Navajo sandstone near Page, Arizona on Navajo Nation land. Over millennia, flash floods from the Mormon Ridges carved two distinct sections — the Upper Canyon (Tsé bighánílíní, 'the place where water runs through rocks') and the Lower Canyon (Hazdistazí). The site holds sacred significance for the Navajo people; to this day, entry is only permitted with a licensed Navajo guide. The canyon gained worldwide photographic fame for the shafts of light that pierce vertically through narrow overhead openings around midday, illuminating the undulating orange-red walls in constantly shifting hues. In places the passage narrows to less than a meter wide while the walls soar up to 37 meters overhead.
