Rose Valley

Also known as: Rose Red valley start

Rose Valley (Güllüdere Vadisi) sits just east of Göreme in the heart of Cappadocia, taking its name from the warm pink-red glow the soft tuff rock emits in low angled sunlight. The landscape was carved over millions of years by volcanic deposits and wind erosion, producing the region's signature fairy chimneys and flat-topped rock pillars. Hidden along the valley walls are several Byzantine rock-cut churches dating from the 9th to 11th centuries — among them the Haçlı Kilise, which retains faded cross frescoes — used by early Christian communities seeking refuge in the remote terrain. A well-worn trail connects Rose Valley to the adjacent Kızılçukur Valley in roughly two hours, passing open rock ledges with sweeping views across the Cappadocian plateau. The valley is quieter than the more-visited Göreme Open Air Museum and rewards those who time their walk for the last hour before sunset.
