Arakurayama Sengen Park sits on a hillside above Fujiyoshida city in Yamanashi Prefecture, centered on the Arakura Sengen Shrine, a Shinto sanctuary whose origins trace back to the Edo period, though the park itself was established in 1959. Its fame rests almost entirely on a single view: the five-storied Chureito Pagoda framed against the cone of Mount Fuji, surrounded by cherry blossoms — an image that has become one of the most reproduced photographs of Japan. Reaching the pagoda requires climbing roughly 400 stone steps through the shrine precincts. Peak cherry blossom season falls in late April, drawing dense crowds for hanami celebrations; outside that window, the forested slopes offer quiet trails and an unobstructed Fuji panorama with far fewer visitors.
