Archaeological Site in Gwanbuk-ri

The Gwanbuk-ri archaeological site in present-day Buyeo, South Korea, preserves the remains of the royal palace complex from the Sabi period of the Baekje Kingdom (538–660 CE). Baekje was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea and served as a major cultural conduit between the Korean peninsula, China, and Japan — its Sabi capital functioned as the kingdom's administrative and ceremonial heart for over a century. Excavations have uncovered roof tiles, ceramics, and structural foundations that attest to a sophisticated palace architecture, though little stands above ground today. The site forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed 'Baekje Historic Areas' inscribed in 2015, drawing visitors and researchers interested in early medieval Korean history.
