Jordan Archaeological Museum

The Jordan Archaeological Museum sits atop Amman's citadel hill — one of the Levant's most layered historical sites — and has been open since 1951. For decades it served as the country's principal museum until the Jordan Museum opened in 2014 and assumed that role. Its collection spans the Stone Age through the Islamic period, with Bronze Age pottery, Nabataean sculpture, and Roman glasswork representing the region's successive cultures. Among its most notable holdings are fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, on permanent display here. The citadel setting also offers broad views over modern Amman, making the museum a natural starting point for exploring the surrounding excavation sites.
