Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Amboró

Amboró National Park and Integrated Natural Management Area covers 4,425 km² of protected land in eastern-central Bolivia, roughly 100 km west of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Its ecological significance lies in a rare triple convergence: Andean foothills forest, the humid Amazon basin, and the dry thorn-scrub savannas of the Gran Chaco all meet within its boundaries, creating extraordinary habitat diversity. The park is home to over 830 bird species — making it a premier destination for ornithologists — alongside jaguars, spectacled bears, giant otters, and more than 3,000 plant species. Established in 1973 and significantly expanded in 1991, it shares a continuous protected corridor with the adjacent Carrasco National Park to the west. Access is typically through the small town of Buena Vista, with licensed local guides required for most trails into the interior.
