Heiden und Magerrasen Trupbach
The Heiden und Magerrasen Trupbach nature reserve covers around 81 hectares of open heathland and dry grassland northwest of the Siegen district of Trupbach, formally designated in 2004 by the Arnsberg regional authority. The site protects heath and lean-grass habitats that require active management to prevent woodland encroachment — ecosystems that have become rare across the intensively farmed Siegerland region. These nutrient-poor soils support specialist plant and insect communities seldom found elsewhere in the area. The reserve borders the Trupbacher Heide in Freudenberg, designated separately as the Kirrberg nature reserve, together forming a broader connected heath corridor. For visitors, the area offers quiet walking through open, unhurried landscape at the edge of Siegen's city limits.
