Argimusco

Argimusco is a remote high plateau in Sicily's Nebrodi Mountains, sitting between 1,100 and 1,200 metres elevation and studded with distinctive sandstone rock formations. Since the 1990s, some researchers have interpreted these formations as prehistoric megaliths with astronomical alignments — a hypothesis that remains contested among archaeologists but lends the plateau a genuine air of mystery. Designated part of the Riserva Naturale Bosco di Malabotta nature reserve since 1997, the site offers an extraordinary 360-degree panorama on clear days: Mount Etna, the Aeolian Islands, Capo Tindari, and the ridgelines of the Peloritani are all visible simultaneously. Access is via dirt tracks from Montalbano Elicona, with almost no tourist infrastructure — the plateau's solitude is very much part of the experience.
