Andle Stone

The Andle Stone is a natural sandstone outcrop standing roughly 5 metres tall on Stanton Moor in the Peak District, Derbyshire, a short walk from the Bronze Age stone circle known as Doll Tor near Birchover. The surrounding moor is unusually dense with prehistoric remains — cairns, ring cairns, and cup-marked stones suggest a ritually significant Bronze Age landscape. The Andle Stone itself carries no clearly man-made markings, but local folklore has long associated it with pre-Christian gatherings and customs. It is reached via narrow heather paths with no visitor facilities, making it a genuinely remote encounter with both geology and deep prehistory.
