Arbor Low

Arbor Low is a Neolithic henge monument sitting at around 375 metres on Middleton Moor in the Peak District, Derbyshire — remote, wind-exposed, and far from any village. Dated to roughly 2500–2000 BC, it consists of some fifty recumbent limestone slabs arranged in an oval within a substantial earthwork bank and ditch, with two opposing entrances. Whether the stones ever stood upright remains debated among archaeologists, lending the site an extra layer of interpretive uncertainty. Often called the "Stonehenge of the North", it is a scheduled ancient monument and one of the most important prehistoric sites in England. The walk across open moorland to reach it is part of the experience — the sweeping views and near-total silence reinforce the sense of deliberate ritual isolation.
