Hammer Museum

The Hammer Museum is an art museum opened in 1990 in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, run by the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture. Oil tycoon Armand Hammer donated his private collection with works by Rembrandt, Cezanne, and Van Gogh; after years of dispute with his heirs the museum was placed under UCLA in 2007. Today the curatorial focus is on contemporary Los Angeles art and post-minimalist positions, with works by David Hammons, Mark Bradford, and Lari Pittman. The biennial Made in L.A. exhibition shows only local artists. Admission has been free since 2014. Free open-air concerts run in the courtyard through the summer.
