Atatürk, His Mother and Women's Rights Monument

Erected in 1973 in Izmir's Karşıyaka district, this bronze-and-concrete monument portrays Mustafa Kemal Atatürk alongside his mother Zübeyde Hanım as a tribute to the early Turkish Republic's expansion of women's rights. Turkey granted women full suffrage in 1934 — among the earliest in Europe — a reform central to Kemalist ideology and directly referenced by the monument's dedication.
